Error Messages after Installing ELPLA

Since the first windows version of ELPLA has been released for Windows 3.1, most installation errors appeared when running ELPLA for the first time had been resolved through the recent versions of Internet Explorer. Therefore, ELPLA requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or later on your System. The following section answers the most frequently questions about download and installation errors. If this article does not describe the error message that you are receiving, don't hesitate to e-mail us atgeotec@***.

After installing ELPLA, maybe one of the following error messages appears:

-

ActiveX component can't create object or return reference to this object (Error 429). (This problem has been solved in GEOTEC Office 9.2 SP1)

-

After starting an ELPLA project, Windows Installer prompts you for an alternate path to a folder containing the ELPLA installation package, or you receive an "Error 1706" error message. (This problem has been solved in ELPLA 9.1)

ActiveX component can't create object or return reference to this object (Error 429)

This error appears when ELPLA classes have not been properly registered in the system registry. To resolve this error, try to start each of the ELPLA applications individually. If the registry information is wrong, the application should check the registry and correct the information. If starting ELPLA applications does not fix the problem, rerun the ELPLA setup program. The ELPLA applications, which need class registrations are ELPLA Data, ELPLA Solver, ELPLA Graphic, ELPLA Section, ELPLA List and GEOTEC Text.

To run any of these applications:

-

Click Start, and then go to GEOTEC Office-ELPLA 9.0 menu.

-

On the ELPLA 9.0 menu, click the required application.

After starting an ELPLA project, Windows Installer prompts you for an alternate path to a folder containing the ELPLA installation package, or you receive an "Error 1706" error message.

After starting an ELPLA project, the Windows Installer may do one of two things, depending on whether you are a member of the Administrators group:
- If you are logged on as a member of the Administrators group, you are prompted for the path to a folder containing the ELPLA installation package as shown in the following figure.

-

If you are not a member of the Administrators group, you are not prompted for the path to a folder containing the ELPLA installation package, but you receive the "Error 1706" error message as shown in the following figure.

This problem occurs if ELPLA is installed from a temporary folder or a CD then you removed the installer folder, and did not start any of the ELPLA programs yet. This problem exists because certain registry data only exists in your user profile after you start one of the ELPLA applications. When some of the ELPLA application futures need to be updated, the Windows Installer runs the ELPLA installation to ensure the existence of this registry information. If you are not logged on as a member of the Administrators group, you do not have sufficient permissions to run the ELPLA installation, and you are not prompted for the installation path. Therefore, you only receive the 1706 error message.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

-

If you do not have access to the ELPLA installation (for example, you are not connected to your network), the Windows Installer prompts you for a valid ELPLA source location. If Windows Installer prompts you for an alternate path to a folder containing the ELPLA installation package, change the path to a valid source location.

-

When you install ELPLA from an administrative installation, the Windows Installer uses that installation as the source for the installation package during any update operation. Therefore, you are not prompted for the path to ELPLA installation package, and the necessary update automatically occurs, using the files on the administrative installation. This is true whether or not you are part of the Administrators group therefore be sure that the ELPLA installation package exist in the same source location defined during the installation
